In the spirit of TED and ideas worth spreading, TEDxCapeTown acts a connector, a collaborator and a space for citizen-driven change and community. We want to find people who overcame the odds and contributed to building their communities, and then to connect them, inspire them and engage them. We also provide the platform to capture and showcase some of these stories and ideas through our events. The real outcome of a TEDx event is the magic that happens around, in the spaces in between and above and below where no one sees.
TEDxCapeTown’s 2013 event will focus on inspired people with powerful stories who’ve found themselves in unexpected circumstances or crazy places, situations that have propelled them to do great things!
This local and independently organised TEDx event, Amazing People, Crazy Places, provides a platform for inspired people who have done great things, big or small, to share their journeys, learnings and successes in a meaningful and empowering way. All the TEDx Talks will also be recorded and available to watch online after the event. There are over 60 TEDxCapeTown Talks online already, telling local stories of inspiring people and wonderful ideas.
The first ever TEDxCapeTown event was held on 16 April 2011 with a focus on water. Last year the TEDxCapeTown event was in July themed around play. Also in 2012, the team supported and curated two theme-specific events, one for education titled TEDxCapeTownED on 16 June, and the other part of a world-wide event on 13 October with a focus on cities titled TEDxCity 2.0.
As is the ethos of TED and TEDx, TEDxCapeTown is a community who is passionate about ideas worth spreading. The volunteer team behind TEDxCapeTown consists of enthusiastic, ‘disruptive’ big-thinking individuals who strive to leverage opportunities, inspire connection and create change in the world.
